W dniach 6-7 grudnia odbędą się protesty w pierwszą rocznicę zastrzelenia 15-letniego Aleksandrosa Grigoropulosa, który uczestniczył w demonstracji w Atenach. Na cmentarzu o godzinie 11:30 odprawiona zostanie liturgia przy grobie chłopaka. Po jej zakończeniu zaplanowano manifestacje w centrum Aten, a wieczorem w dzielnicy Eksarchia – w miejscu śmierci nastolatka. Prezydent Karolos Papulias apeluje o pokojowy charakter demonstracji.
6 grudnia 2008 r. grupa młodzieży obrzuciła kamieniami radiowóz policyjny. Kula wystrzelona przez jednego z funkcjonariuszy śmiertelnie raniła Aleksandrosa Grigoropulosa. W samych Atenach, zniszczenia wyceniono na ponad 50 milionów euro.
Epaminondas Korkoneas, 38-letni policjant odpowiedzialny za śmierć chłopaka ma stanąć przed sądem 20 stycznia przyszłego roku. Oficerowi postawiono zarzut umyślnego zabójstwa. Vassilis Saraliotis, drugi policjant, który wziął udział w incydencie, jest oskarżony o współudział w zabójstwie.
Adwokat Korkoneasa, Aleksis Kugias twierdzi, że Grigoropulos zginął od rykoszetu, a nie od bezpośredniego trafienia. Powiedział też, że ekspertyza balistyczna potwierdza wersję oskarżonych policjantów, którzy zeznali, że oddali tylko strzały ostrzegawcze, nie celując bezpośrednio w nastolatka.
